Quick thoughts on Manhattan - they played us tough the entire game...gave us trouble in the final 3rd of the field... Great goalie and solid midfield play from #11. We are glad to have played them at home and not on their turf and in their backyard. Solid team that is well coached.
Miege - (at home) Another cold and wet night for us... glad we had Miege at home - they are so tough at home on their turf! We had lots of chances and put three away. - Miege did what we thought they would do - defend with a passion and play hard all game long. Something can be said about a program that will play hard each and every game (boys or girls) for decades!!! We now have noticeable issues to solve from a coaching stand point and will look to do just that in the near future. Good Job Lady JAGS!!! "261"
Olathe West - congrats to our gals for dealing with another poor weather condition game and getting after Olathe West. We came out hungry and stayed hungry all game long. Olathe West plays a nice passing game that we jumped on. GIve them some more time and they will have a very strong team that will play a beautiful style of soccer. Credit them for playing good soccer and sticking with it.
BV North - : Weird game that had no flow... whistle after whistle. We got down and clawed our way back out. BVN was a good organized team that took it to us. We did not play our style and it showed - give credit to North. way to battle gals "261"!!!
Mill Valley - a very organized team that showed striking power. They have an excellent goalie and #14 in the midfield gave us trouble all night long. The Mill Valley JV squad put it to our gals to the tune of a 0-3 loss. Girls soccer at Mill Valley is looking up and with the excellent coaching staff, they will have a "power house" very soon. You have to give it to our varsity gals last night... wow, what a solid performance from start to finish - great soccer all over the field. So many great players all blended into one stream and effort. Last nights game was all about TEAM. If we can play like that on a regular basis we will be tough to beat?
Wichita comes North: Many goals and we beat the weather as well
Blue Springs South tourney: first up ParkHill South: We faced a very young team that was going through some injuries and tough times. We also played our first game on turf - it showed. We had lots of good looks and scored some nice goals. Not sure why we can't keep the other team off the score board? It seems that we will have at least one defensive breakdown every game. Going to work on both ends of the game in our upcoming training sessions. Solid effort and good win for our gals. We looked good up top and through the midfield. All the new players also got to sing "cheers to the bus driver" for the first time as BVW soccer gals.
Blue Springs South: what a cold and windy night! It will be a miracle if the entire JV and Varsity teams are not sick this weekend. Our gals looked solid! We did not have Miss Molly and yet the Varsity played great. BSSouth has a big time scorer in #7 and they also have a great goalie. The game was lost by the terrible weather conditions.
Pembrook Hill: calm evening with the sun out...(this has been rare). BVW played another away game to end the tourney. This night was over shadowed by the bus trip. We were late getting to the game and then our bus was not there to pick us up after the game and then we got lost on the way home... at least we did not run out of gas...The girls poured it on during the game and then took their foot of the pedal during the second half. Solid show from BVW.
BVNW (A) always a tough game. #3 gave us trouble and BVNW came out ready for battle. We hurt ourselves with off side goals and missed chances. We also missed a PK! Our effort was solid and we did not panic when the game got chippie. We did not play our best soccer but we did survive to play another night. Alexa played great as did Miss Molly in the back!
Next up Blue Valley High on our senior night (H) BV High has a solid bunch of players that could be a sleeper during the playoffs. Good play by us and a super senior night! Congrats to Megan and Molly for their four years of great Varsity soccer!!! No rest for our troops - Olathe East is next up on Friday night.
Olathe East- just glad to finally get this game done and over with. (twice this game has been rescheduled) Our gals looked tired and we played much slower than normal. OE has two real nice players in #13 and #20 up top for them. They are a solid team that will be tough to beat in the playoffs. Marissa was a show stopper for us - she had both goals and set up some other nice plays. Great game for her - she was on a mission in overtime! We will rest up for BVSW our next game.
Aquinas - trying yo play soccer on the turf with a 25-30 mile an hour wind makes for terrible soccer. That said, we out shot them and had many more corners, but never found the net. Aquinas has a lot of gurrr and it showed. Tough loss for our gals but we have to snap back asap. Our game seemed like we were part of a circus show over at Aquinas, C team soccer + Varsity baseball + Varsity Softball + senior night + pink out+ inside was probably Tuesday night BINGO! Crazy night. St
St. James - playing at home but the away team. 1-0 Win. Not much to say about this game other than we looked tired and not as interested as we normally are. Zoey did a great job in goal for us and we beat the terrible weather that came about an hour after our game. Tired and soar our gals will regroup and train for our next battle against OE on Friday. This St. James game combined with the OE game have so many different dates and times that I could not keep up with the changes on the website!
BVSW - away for the EKL championship. A handball in the box and a defender slipping spotted BVSW 2 goals. We had 12 corners to their 3 corners and we outshot them as well... we just could not muster enough offense to come out of a 2 goal hole. Great effort by us but a tough way to end league play! 2nd place in a super tough league is still a huge accomplishment given that almost the entire team is new and very few started from last years team. The only thing we are missing is the scoring punch! We have to get the attack mentality back from our midfielders and wingers!!! Honestly we played well - I thought we controlled most of the game. Next up Olathe South who is 9-5-1 and just chomping at the bit to beat us.
Olathe South - (Away) 5-1 Win. It was a great night for our Gals - solid passing and attacking gave us a nice away victory against a solid team that will look to move on in the playoffs. Wonderful corner kicks this time around for us - great placement and we did score on one! At the summer camps, that all the coaches attend, the other coaches had chalked BVW off to be around 8-8 next year since we graduated so many seniors and that we were going to lose even more players to the DA's and then we also had injuries... Folks - our gals went 14 -2 this year and they showed some great soccer along the way! SUPER PROUD OF OUR TEAM!!! Thanks girls for all your hard work and efforts and for putting up with the coaching staff!!! GREAT JOB this past 8 weeks. GO JAGS 261
PLAYOFFS ROUND 1- we added some more depth to our squad by adding Sophie Catenacci in our midfield and Katherine Lucas in our back line. 6-0 Win with no injuries and we move on to Thursday night at home vs SM East. Not our best game by a long shot but we got a result and we are ready for SM East. Exciting games all over with all the Blue Valley school showing well. The EKL is a tough league and when 3 lower seeds all knock off higher seeds all playing away - that shows just how strong our EKL league is. Say Goodbye to all the Olathe schools! ROUND 2 SM East- our gals looks so good all game long. SM East is a solid team that is well coached and we got all over them from the very start. Great job on our corners and the ball placement! Great field, weather, refs and effort from both teams! Super job by all the gals!!! Next up BV North for the State Quarterfinals. ROUND 3 BVN (EKL showdown) Our complex looked awesome - great pitch and wonderful effort from our gals! BVN is a tough team and they played well giving us trouble all game long. Solid defensive play kept us in the game long enough for us to get on the scoreboard first. Kuhlman had a great game and Popoola added to her goal count - now with 28 for the season. Molly Cummings looked her normal excellent steady defender... Glad to get this one out of the way. BVN had a 8-10 record but being a Blue Valley team they would fight us tooth and nail for every ball and advantage. ROUND 4 vs Manhattan (I am not looking forward to a team we have already played at home and took care of - they play all their home games on turf and will be a handful for sure)!
Manhattan - we knew they had improved and they did - wow they were a tough team to play against. So well coached and they had some players with huge hearts! Even though we won - they also are winners for putting out such a great effort! GRIT and GRINDING IT OUT is what our gals did! Great HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER GAME!!! We had bodies flying around /balls hitting off the post, some bad calls, people yelling, kids giving it their all... wonderful experience for both teams and the fans got their moneys worth. For my own health, I hope the final is more calm! Washburn Rural - the #1 team is next up for our gals. Good Luck JAGS. 1-0 W for our gals - congrats to them for all their hard work and team efforts!!! tough game with the turf and heat + Washburn was up to play! Great games were turned in by so many players hard to single out any one player. We are so proud of all the players for sticking together and work together for the entire season. It may look easy from the stands - let me tell you - it is not! It was a long and draining season with all kinds of obstacles to over come... and they did just that. Players playing different positions, they were asked to do things they would not do during club ball... What a great bunch of players and assistant coaches - we even had some help from some of our boys coaching staff (scouting) this last weekend. Summer is finally here and the girls can take a break from High School soccer for a little while. Enjoy the time off - you deserve it!!!
6A State Champions, Regional Champions, Blue Springs South Tourney Champs, HyVee team of the week...19-2 when nobody thought it possible! What a great bunch!!!
